Susan Gibson is an American singer-songwriter based in Wimberley, Texas. She has released multiple solo albums and tours nationally, performing a roots-folk/country blend of music. Gibson was the lead singer for the alternative country band The Groobees before focusing on her solo career.
She is best known for writing the hit song “Wide Open Spaces,” which was recorded by the country group The Dixie Chicks (now The Chicks). The track became the title song of their breakthrough 1998 album and helped define their sound and success. Gibson continues to perform her own music live — including often playing “Wide Open Spaces” herself — at concerts, festivals, listening rooms, and other venues across the U.S
